Cherry blossom is here in Tokyo now!
A very ordinary suburban Tokyo streets change its appearance in quite a dramatic way with the coming of spring, when roads are covered with cherry blossoms. These photos are not from any tourist oriented locations but just plain ordinary suburban neighborhood of Yakumo in Meguro Ward.
The power of cherry blossom is amazing; there’s this natural tendency in Japanese that makes them want to go out and adore these flowers. You would find people walking more leisurely, smiling and looking happier than usual. You may also find some people picnic under those cherry trees on the sidewalk.
Hanami, or cherry blossom viewing custom, is said to have started by farmers to appreciate the feast of the coming of spring. Nowadays, cherry viewing parties still continue across Japan, whether in the country or the city. Often referred as unique to Japanese culture and not found in other nations.
