Actually this wasn’t an ordinary walk. There are many shrines and temples in Yanaka and Nezu district, and among them, there are seven shrines/temples that worship the Shichifukujin or Seven Gods of Good Fortune. Namely, Ebisu, Daikokuten, Bishamonten, Benzaiten, Fukurokuju, Jurojin, and Hotei.
Visiting each of these seven shrines/temples with its particular god are called Shichifukujin tours and is said to bring luck to the person making the rounds. By the way, there are numerous Shichifukujin designated shrines/temples throughout Japan and more than a dozen exist in Tokyo alone.
